The ROD-1 is a completely tooth-borne appliance designed exclusively for interdental distraction in Class I or Class II malocclusions with flared (greater than 110° relative to the mandibular plane) or crowded lower incisors (greater than 8 mm). On diagnostic models, female portions of the removable attachments are first soldered to the stainless steel crowns on the 1st bicuspids and 1st molars. With the ROD laboratory alignment tool, the distraction frame assembly is oriented in three dimensions, then soldered to the male portion of the attachments.
