Planning the Osteotomy and Drill Hole Sites
- Mark the intended line of osteotomy with ink in accordance with the preoperative radiographic analysis. Inspect the distractor for adequate functioning of all movements and correct position with regard to the planned osteotomy
- Insure that the pins can be placed on both sides of the planned osteotomy, avoiding any unerupted teeth or the mandibular canal. The two pins closest to the osteotomy should be a minimum of 12 mm apart
- The four planned pins should ideally be positioned in a straight line, parallel to the vector or planned line of distraction
