General Treatment Criteria

The decision to use distraction osteogenesis must be carefully weighed against the currently available standard surgical options. The treatment plan is decided based upon the following criteria:

• Patient age

• Severity of the deformity

• Bone growth potential

• Functional and esthetic goals

• Psychological considerations

• Absence of medical contraindications
