Introduction
Although osteodistraction is not a new concept (Codivilla, 1905; Ilizarov, 1988; Ilizarov & Ledyaev, 1992; De Bastiani et al., 1987) and its application to craniomaxillofacial defomitities has become widespread, there is a lack of literature when considering the use of distraction osteogenesis appliances for correction of bone height and width, especially for alveolar ridge augmentation. The purpose of this presentation is to discuss two types of distraction appliances that we designed. Both devices are fabricated using commercially pure titanium (Ti90Al6V4) bars.
