Common Dental Questions
Q: Could my chronic headaches be caused by a Dental problem?
A: YES!!! The
cause of many "TENSION" headaches and/or pain in the
muscles of the face can indeed be traced back to two habits
commonly caused by STRESS called clinching and/or bruxing
(grinding) patterns. The discomfort can also be amplified by the
malalignment of teeth.
However, symptoms of this nature can also be related TMJ or
Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome or more currently called
Myofacial Pain Disorder. In 90-95% of the time appliance therapy
is the treatment of choice followed by an Equilibration (bite
adjustment) and/or Orthodontic therapy. Only 5-10% need any type
of Surgical intervention.
The good news is you DO NOT have to endure daily headaches any
longer if indeed they are related to a dental problem!!!
Q: Is Bleaching safe for my teeth and will it cause sensitivity?
A: Bleaching is
a GREAT safe way to brighten and whiten your teeth. Custom mouth
appliances are processed from an impression made of your mouth.
Nitewhite bleaching solution is then placed in the appliance and
placed in your mouth and while you are sleeping, your teeth are
being lightened. Depending upon each individual and how long you
are able to treat your teeth, the process is usually complete in
three to six week.
Most people experience very little if any sensitivity while
bleaching. However, patients that exhibit sensitivity prior to
the process may experience some increase in sensitivity during
treatment. If this happens the bleaching process must go at a
much slower pace but great results can still be obtained.
If you have sensitive teeth, let your dentist know before you
start and he or she can add a few steps to help ensure a safe,
pleasant experience.
Q: Can I be made completely comfortable during my dental treatment?
A: YES!!! Our
office is dedicated to your comfort. We can provide a musical
headset to alleviate the sounds that are so often irritating.
Nitrous Oxide is available to help thoroughly relax and calm your
nerves. The Nitrous Oxide is not retained and completely left
your system within four minutes after your procedure. Oral
medications and I.V. Sedation is available if necessary.
Dentistry has come a long way!!! There is absolutely no reason to
feat the pain associated with dental treatment in the past.
