ABOUT THE AUTHORS

Mikhail L. Samchukov, MD

Mikhail Samchukov is the Director of the Division of Clinical Orthopedic Research in the Seay Center for Muskuloskeletal Research at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children in Dallas, Texas. He is also a Clinical Associate Professor, Department of Orthodontics, an Assistant Professor, Department of Biomedical Sciences at the Center for Craniofacial Research and Diagnosis at Texas A&M University System Health Science Center – Baylor College of Dentistry, and Assistant Professor, Department of Orthopedic Surgery, University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.

Dr. Samchukov graduated from the Khabarovsk Medical Institute in 1982, and began practicing at the Ilizarov Scientific Center in Kurgan, Russia. During the past 19 years, he has been an investigator on 46 research projects on distraction osteogenesis and histiogenesis. Dr. Samchukov is the co-author of 7 patents and 25 certified inventions related to osteodistraction. He has published many works on the subject of osteodistraction including 4 books and manuals, a multimedia course on CD-ROM, 18 book chapters, 47 journal articles, and 141 abstracts. Jason B. Cope, DDS, PhD

Jason Cope is a Clinical Assistant Professor, Department of Orthodontics at Texas A&M University System Health Science Center – Baylor College of Dentistry. he also maintains a private orthodontics practice in Dallas. Recently, Dr. Cope was invited to serve as an Associate Editor for Quintessence International, and as Ad Hoc Reviewer for the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics.

Dr. Cope graduated form Baylor College of Dentistry in 1995, completed his orthodontic certificate in 1997, and was awarded a PhD degree in 1999 for defencing his dissertation Bilateral Mandibular Lengthening by Osteodistraction: Biologic and Biomechanical Parameters. He is actively involved in distraction osteogenesis research. During the past 5 years, Dr. Cope has been an investigator on 19 funded research grants and has spoken at numerous international meetings. He has edited 2 books and a multimedia course on CD-ROM, and written 21 book chapters, 15 journal articles, and 35 abstracts. He has also been recognized with 5 national research awards. Alexander M. Cherkashin, MD, MCSE, MCDBA

Alexander Cherkashin is the Director of the Orthopedic Data Management Laboratory in the Seay Center for Muskuloskeletal Research at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children in Dallas, Texas.

Dr. Cherkashin graduated from Novosibirsk State Medical School in 1983, and began his career at the Ilizarov Scientific Center in Kurgan, Russia. After being appointed head of the orthopedic department in 1989, his research area has been dedicated to computerized outcome studies and distraction osteogenesis-related mistakes and complications. Over the past 18 years, Dr. Cherkashin has been involved with 19 research projects related to distraction osteogenesis, computerized patient records, and outcome studies. He is the co-author of 4 patents and 9 certified inventions related to osteodistraction. He has edited both a book and a multimedia course on CD-ROM, written 12 book chapters, 7 journal articles, and numerous abstracts related to distraction osteogenesis.
