Dear Colleague:

Welcome to the Distraction Osteogenesis Interactive Course on CD-ROM DEMO. The demo includes the table of contents with several activated sections that are highlighted in blue. The full version of this CD-ROM is a comprehensive course with 582 pages, 773 illustrations, 23 animations, and 18 video clips. This course provides the definitions and classifications of distraction osteogenesis techniques and covers the most important aspects related to osteodistraction. Topics include the origins and evolution of craniofacial distraction osteogenesis, the biological basis of new bone formation under the influence of tensional stress, and biomechanical considerations of device orientation during distraction. The currently available extraoral and intraoral distraction appliances, osteotomy techniques, and distraction protocols are analyzed for mandibular lengthening, widening, bone transport, and alveolar ridge augmentation.

The library of 44 case studies, collected from world-renowned experts in the field of distraction osteogenesis, illustrates the details of specific techniques along with the clinical results and potential complications. The reference library of over 500 clinical and scientific papers and the distraction osteogenesis dictionary with 92 terms and definitions are both tightly integrated with the interactive course for better understanding of the content, and to provide an additional source of information.

The CD-ROM is directly linked to the Interactive Distraction Osteogenesis Study Club, a web site developed by Global MedNet that serves as an online communication forum offering a variety of information services related to osteodistraction. Using this link, you can also access the CD-ROM Updates. The built in Distraction Osteogenesis Search Engine allows keyword searches to find all pertinent information related to the specific distraction topic. You may also link to the Online CME/CDE Credit Center and take a test for any particular CD-ROM chapter. This allows you to obtain CME/CDE credit from the comfort of your own home.
